Selection Information & Warranty

Selection Information

Anchoring is not a precise science due to the diversity of boat designs, boat profile factors, wind and weather conditions, wave or tidal action, bottom composition and conditions where anchoring, etc. Anchor sizing information can only be approximate, and you are the best person to fully assess which anchor is best for you.

These anchor recommendations are from the manufacturer and are based on their knowledge gained from testing, from figures and writings published by recognized experts; and from information and data from other anchor manufacturers.  Most anchor sizing is based on 30 knot winds and a suitable size anchor/boat relationship for normal use (commonly called a ‘working anchor’). A storm anchor is generally 1 or 2 sizes larger than a working anchor and is needed for winds up to 42 knots. It is generally understood that at twice the wind speed you will need 4 times the holding power.

Anchor Dimensions Chart

For safe boating your anchor must be fitted with an appropriate length and size of anchor rode (rope and chain), and to allow the correct scope. The scope is the general angle of the rode from the bow to the anchor on the sea floor. For best results use a scope of 7-1 (i.e. if water depth is 10’ including the height of your bow above the water line a rode length of 70’ is needed). In good conditions 5-1 can be acceptable (i.e. 10’ of depth needs a rode length of 50’). Sometimes the rode can be shortened after the anchor is well set in good conditions in confined situations. Do not leave your boat unattended on a shortened rode.

Because of the rapid assembly of all HydroBubble® anchors, we suggest that you consider one for use as your STORM ANCHOR.
